The Monster Inside
by Karen Syens

I want to beat this evil monster that festers inside
It gnaws on my joints
and messes with my mind
It swells up my knuckles and ankles
and makes me tired and weak

Day by day I fight the monster with many weapons
Hoping to kill the evil that dwells inside
I use eight weapons in the morning and five by night
Some weapons ease my mind, some lower the swelling, and others lessen the pain
So many weapons I use but the monster still lingers on

Nothing will kill this painful monster that is tearing me apart
I sit in my "Palace" like a Damsel in distress
I'm waiting to be referred to my Prince Charming in a white lab coat
to sweep me off my feet with a weapon that can cure
A weapon to rid my body of the monster that flares inside

Until the day my Prince Charming shows up
I must go back to the Jesters to get my ammo refilled
My Messenger tells me that I'm in this battle for life
and that sometimes the monster will be quiet and other times flaming mad
The weapons are offering some kind of relief to rid my body of this dreadful beast.
