Deck the Halls with Insecurity and Depression

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 8 months and a few days or so, and we tell each other we love one another. But, I am scared he's gonna be like some of the other guys I've dated. I know he won't cheat on me because I wouldn't cheat on him. But, I just don't know if he really loves me for sure. How can you tell if someone really loves you?

-Scared in Saskatchewan

Dear SiS,

Ms. Meniscus isn't sure about your statement that he won't cheat on you because you wouldn't cheat on him. Many a tycoon has been fooled by the age-old trust in humanity. Always doubt your neighbor. Always assume the worst. You're right to be scared. He probably bears striking resemblance to other guys you've dated. Perhaps shockingly so. And you know, history repeats itself. Ms. Meniscus can tell you quite easily, honey, how you can tell. A kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girl's best friend. A kiss may be grand--but it won't pay the rental--on your humble flat. Or help you at the automat. Men grow cold, as girls grow old, and we all lose our charm in the end. But square cut or pear shaped, those rocks don't lose their shape! Of course, as usual, Ms. Meniscus is being sarcastic. It's why the world loves me. And, along those lines, is how you'll know if you love him or not. In other words, you'll know when he loves you completely, regardless of material possessions.

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

I am a freshman in High School. I have known this one guy for about two years. He is a senior but I really don't care about age. I believe that I am in love with him. I spend every moment thinking about him in some way. We have the same interests and do a lot of the same things. We share friends and do things with them all of the time. He does have a girlfriend but he flirts with me all of the time, especially when she's not there. He is getting me so confused. I don't understand what his feelings are. I also am not sure what I should do about the whole situation. I can't imagine my life being the least bit exciting without him by my side. I am at a loss of feelings because he has my mind boggled and I have uncontrollable feelings for him. Please help me in anyway.

-Dependent in Duck

Dear Duck,

No guy is worth this amount of boggledness. Ms. Meniscus beseeches you to imagine your life being the least bit exciting without him by your side. After all, he is not by your side at present. He is at his girlfriend's side. And while he may flirt with you, especially when she is not there, you are above his secondary attentions. You deserve primary attention. Please remember this as you run on to new and better pursuits.

Dear Ms. Meniscus,

Around the holidays I usually get sad or feel depressed. What can I do to stop this?

-Not Decking the Halls Just Yet

Dear Undecked,

Many people become depressed around the holidays. Ms. Meniscus advises you to spend time doing things you enjoy. Take a walk outdoors. Go ice skating. Curl up by a fire and sip hot chocolate. Or even better, volunteer somewhere--at a shelter, school, or soup kitchen. You'll feel better helping others.
