This past weekend was more relaxing and more fun than any weekend I can remember in a long time. I went down to Washington DC an old friend and two new ones. It was on the trip down that we figured out how four adults in 8 hours of New Jersey Turnpike traffic can occupy themselves. It wasn’t easy and it didn’t come to us at first, but we got the hang of it by exit 10.

I think the weekend was so good because it was just really distracting. We were always around one another doing all kinds of things that we ordinarily don’t do during the week. We had fun and we didn’t plan ahead. No schedules to keep, just parties to attend and lots of fun to go around.

And that could explain why it was such a great holiday weekend. They should only be so good…so relaxing, so much fun, and so relatively pain-free.

My trip to London this week certainly got off on the wrong foot. So to speak. Since the day I got here (Friday night) I noticed my right foot beginning to bother me. Aching, sore and occasionally burning on the bottom, I thought nothing of it but to change up my shoes (good thing I checked a bag), and credit my soreness to the endless corridors of Hethrow Airport and jet lag. However as the weekend progressed it became more and more noticeable until finally yesterday I couldn’t stand it, a call home was in order. The order in which I’d begin an overseas alarm was also a question I pondered. "Rheumatologist, podiatrist and then mother? Or the other way around. Needless to say all three got a call and all three reacted differently. It will have to wait until tomorrow until I get home and have it looked at by a renowned foot expert – let’s just call him Barry for now.

Our trip to London has been very productive, making arrangements and settling odds-and-ends in preparation for our first UK event, CreakyJoints at Wellington College. This full day of events will bring people in the UK onto the beautiful Wellington College Campus for a great cause – to learn how to exercise, eat right and speak more effectively with their doctor – and mark the beginning of our international presence. Once I figure out how to understand what people over here are saying, I’ll have a better idea of how to run the show. It will kind of be like the A-Games but different, because it will incorporate walking as well as swimming, and reach in upwards of 1,000 people.

Today’s agenda includes writing a few briefs and if I’m lucky, a chance to walk around (or attempt to walk) some of London’s classic street corners. "It’s just like Boston" I remember thinking to myself last time. There’s even a bar named Cheers.
