June 2005 What’s up with my hand man? Either I’m falling apart at the seams or Gatorade is screwing their caps on too tightly. Every time I go for a drink now I have to evaluate how to open it up. In an act of desperation the other night – and probably not for a lack of other influences – I tried hopelessly to open a bottle of Gatorade in my kitchen. Finally – and as a last attempt – I just cut the top off with a steak knife. That’s like using an automatic weapon instead of a fly swatter to kill a mosquito at a BBQ. But that’s what guys like me…guys who have arthritis and get really frustrated with it…do when they feel helpless. And I’ll be damned if a stupid bottle of Gatorade is going to get in my way of good hydration. So instead of feeling sorry for myself and my weakening hands, I felt victorious as I clutched a decapitated juice bottle. What a man. |

I know the feeling of battling with bottle tops. Jars are also particularly problematic, especially if I'm trying to open a new one and the "jar opening" device is working. |

I have a struggle opening everything. I use scissors for opening boxes, but bottles and cans are the worse! Cathy R. |

I hate getting stalled in the middle of cooking by a jar I can't open. I've discovered that 'Hot Spots,' those silicone potholders/insulators, help me open sticky jars by providing cushioning and traction. |

Hey you all have you seen an under the counter V shaped attachment that will help with opening about any size bottle cap? I've had mine for years, works wonders. I don't even remember where I got it. Maybe one of those catalogs you get in the Sunday paper. Carol Wright or something like that. |
