Got a Bone to Pick?: Write to the President of the United States

Gayle, with osteoarthritis of the lumbar region writes:

I have moderate to severe osteoarthritis of the lumbard. I have been taking glucosomine & chondrotin for 3 weeks and two days ago, I can see that this health food supplement is going to work. I also take pottasium as I have spasms both in my back and my calves. The potasium began to work almost immediately whereas the glucosomine taking a little longer. I also go to PT. To everyone that have some form of arthiritis, I recommend both supplements. It does take a long time for the glucosomine to work, so stay with it. I also wish that the FDA would do some heavy duty studies on this product and approve it.

Paul Kurvink, with degenerative arthritis writes:

We need better education for us all. There is no respect for us with bad bones. Just about everyone that I meet has to tell me how bad last night was for them after skiing, hiking, softball, or some other great pleasure that takes more than a willing sprit to partake in. People should learn that this is the real thing, not just some ailment of the month. We need better meds, special hours at the stores so we don't have to go through a demolition derby to buy socks!!

Willie Ann Crossland-Wyms, with rheumatoid writes:

People who have certain types of arthritis have a long wait to receive disability. If a Dr. who is an expert in his field has determined that a person is no longer able to work, there should not be a 4 to 6 month wait to receive aid. After all, most of us have worked an paid into the system.

Matthew Smigielski, whose daughter has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis writes:

As a parent of a child w/ JRA and a Arthritis advocate. I want everyone who reads this to spend 30 minutes and a 34 cent stamp to contact their represenatives in Washington requesting more funding for the NIH and the CDC for more arthritis research. Heck, let's break the bank and spend $1.02 for 3 stamps and use the a word processor and write to our 2 US senators too. I didn't know that kids get arthritis until my daughter got it 6 years ago. I assuming these guys don't know it either and I'm not taking a chance that they don't.

JoAnn Warnke with osteoarthritis writes:

Never in my wildest dreams did I realize how bad the pain and stiffness could alter my life! I had such hopeful dreams of my "golden years" of retirement but, I did not count on having this kind of pain. Yes, some medications help some, but, they are like a band aid and cost so much.

Emily Lindner with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis writes:

I am very dipleased with the U.S. Military. I was planning to go into the Navy while working my way through college. I love the water and for me to work with the Navy was a lifelong dream plus that was a way to get the money I do'nt have to help me pay for college.

The military is alway bragging that they have so much money to help pay for higher education to anyone who wants it. So I took the ASVAB test and did very well on it. Then I get a call from an officer who was asking me guestions about my going into the Navy. We were scheduled to have a info meeting the next day. But before that, he asked me guestions about myself and as soon as he heard I had Arthritis, he said I was not qualified. Talk about DISCRIMINATION. Just because I Have Arthritis DOES NOT mean that I should not be given a chance to prove myself. I also needed that money that they promise everyone for college. IT'S NOT FAIR!
